THE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS COLISEUM, FEBRUARY 21, 1971
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
First of all, I would like to thank you
for my very presence here, [fit were not
/ for you I would have been in the gas
chamber long azo. I would still be in pri-
son, But because of the power of the peo-
ple and the fact that you realize your
power, I’m here today. Sol would like to
thank you, But I can’t because I can't |
find words to express my gratitude, So
withoul words, Thank You,
Today I would liketoask you todo
something else, another favor. Will
you free Bobby Seale, the Chairman, and
Ericka, Angela Davis, Ruchell Magee,
and also Brad Green, I'm sorry that I
kept you waiting; Iwilltry to make it
worth while, But you will have to forgive
me, because I'm not familiar with fancy
phrases and clauses, I’mavery practi-
cal man, we have a practical Party. We
have a practical Party;the Party is ded-
icated to the survival of the people. We
were not founded upon eloquent words;
we were founded upon a survival pro-
gram, And, I feel quite oul of my realm
here, because I’m not a speaker. I'm a
‘man of action. So as best I can, I will

_ Many people believe that in order to
participate in the community programs
that you must be in the Black Panther
Party, Bulthisisnot so. Weask every-
one to become involved in the communi-
ty programs, the self-defense program,
Self defense, you know, is a necessary
thing today, because the people’s very
existence is in danger, The violence of
the aggressor comes in many forms.
The vicious service-revolver of the
police is only one manifestation of vio-
lence. But it ts equally violent for the
State and the small ruling circle tode-
brive the people of housing, of medical
care, of food, of clothing, those acts are
acts of aggression, when we live in such
an affluent society. The Black Panther
Party views those acts as very violent
ones, So therefore we must defend our-
Selves by any means necessary, We will
use those means that are necessary, ef-
Sicient and sufficient; and, we would like
to warn our aggressor that we will not
rest until the people are free, Sonot only
do I ask you to free all political prison-
ers, but also to free the people, because
that will be the final test.
Some people have told us in order for
us to be free, that we must have assimi-
lation, But we know that isnot so. Some
people have told us in order to be free,
we must have integration, Bul we've
tested that also; and we're still not free,
Some people have also toldus, in order
for us to be free, we must have separa-

tion, Bul we know that’s not so, because,
when we look around the world, we see
the African people are separated, we
see the Chinese people and the Vietna-
mese people are separated from the ag-
gressor here in the Empire of North
America, but yet they're not free. So
the people do not want assimilation, in-
tegration or separation, They want
some freedom. We will not be free until
we negate the power of the aggressor.
We think il’s somewhat absurd to feel
that here inthe United States, if we were
to get a small plot, that United States
Imperialism will let us exist side by
side withit, when it won't even let people
ten thousand miles away exist; will not
let them exist until they submit-submit
to the brutal tactics of the imperial ar-
my. The imperial army wears many
uniforms, but they all do the same thing.
They’re all flunkeys for Daley; they're
all flunkeys for Nixon and General Mo-
tors. And we see that they might wear
the uniform of a local policeman; they
might wear the uniform of the National
Guard; or they might wear the uniform
that the men wore who slaughtered the
Vietnamese people in My Lai and Son My
or invaded the borders of Laos, or the
people who are responsible for the siege
of Africa, and for supplying the Portu-
guese with the weapons to torture the
people of Angola and Mozambique,
We sae that the world is different than
it used to be, some years ago inhistory,
To be separated geographically, you
could claim nationhood. But now we see
that the aggressor has co-opted the
whole world, And we see that just to be
Separated by geographical location,
whether its water, land or partition,
does not necessarily mean freedom, In
order for the people to be free we must
nol separate from the slavemaster, but
take the slavemaster’s power, expro-
priate that power and distribute it to the
people , so the people will have the pow-
er, Those countries that used to be
called nations now more resemble op-
pressed communities, communities un-
der siege . We see that the universal
police are doing everything possible to
either exploit or eliminate, But as far
as we are concerned, we say thal we
know that the power that we're fighting
is great-bul we will not submit, A slave
Should never die anatuyral death, A slave
who dies analural death will not balance
two dead flies on the scales of eternity,
1 spoke of the survival program, the
Black Panther Party's program, And I
would like to say that that survival pro-
gram is not a revolutionary program.
It’s a program instituted in the com-
munity so that the people may survive
pending revoluion. Inother words,peo-
ble make revoluion, If we suffer geno-
cide, then revoluion will not occur, be-
cause we won’

the health through distributing free
shoes in the community (we've just
opened a newshoe factory in Oakland,
we hope to have themall over the count-
ry), so that we can give shoes to the
children of Buford County, who suffer
from hookworms, simply because the

The people must survive. But, asI said
the survival program is not arevolu-
tionary program, The survival program
ts to guarantee the existence of man,so
that he can make the necessary changes,
so that the survival kit will not be neces-
sary. Our program is like a first-aid
kit or survival kit, used bya pilot who is
shot down over a sea, He takes a first-
aid kit with him, and also takes a few
protein tablets, He might take some
warm clothing, but he knows that he
won't really be comfortable, until he
reaches the shore. So we say that we’re
doing the same thing; and we'll reach
the shore when the people reach the
level of consciousness to change the
Society, and therefore change the
world, Until that time, until that time, it
is very necessary to Stop just talking
about revolution, because you might not
be able to participate; you might not be
able to participate, if You are wiped out
beforehand,

there’s only one State power and that's
the State power of General Motors be-
cause they’re administrating the whole
world, And if you don’t believe me, just
look around and you'llsee what hap-
pened in the Dominican Republic a few
years ago, whenJuan Bosch was ousted.
You see what happened when Patrice
Lumumba fought for the people in the
Congo, the same people were there-the
fascist American forces, So inorder for
anything to come about, inorder for any
kind of social system to be realized by
the people, first things first. We must
take away the power and ability of the
aggressor to inflict harm upon the peo-
ple. So this is the unity cry ofthe people.

more and more conscious of the need to

civil disorders about 75 companies con-
trol the economy of the United States,
and subsequently control the economy of
the whole world, So we see that the
whole world’s economy has been inte-
grated into Wall Street, and that inor-
der for them to plan their future, they
must first consider the forceand the
atrocious actions of the American gov-
ernment, We know that the people of
America would like not tomorrow, but
yesterday, to change things . But people
are confused. People are confused be-
cause of a low level of consciousness.
And that’s the main theme ofthe Black
Panther Party. Not only do we institute
a survival program in the community,
we also institute an educational pro-
gram, alt around the survival pro-
gram. Because if a man does not know
how to get to that land, when he is cast
out at sea, then he's lost and he will
struggle forever. And he will be like the
myth of Sisyphus pushing a rock up the
hill, only for it to fall back at its own
weight, So we must first realize exactly
who the enemy is. We must stop fighting
our potential friends. But we must de-
Jend ourselves against anyone who
threatens us, because we will not let in-
sanity prevail, Sane men must prevail,
in order that man will prevail, so that
mankind will have a future.
We know that for some years now the
Black Panther Party has been under
siege, Just a year ago Fred Hampton
was murdered, Fred Hampton was mur-
dered because of a conspiracy of Hanra-
han and Daley and all of those other vi-
cious tools of oppression, We know that
this happened, And we must not forget
this. Because Fred Hampton was cons-
cious; he didn’t only say he was some-
body, he said,‘‘Not onlyamI somebody
I know wholam-lamarevolutionist "',
Some people claim that the Black Pan-
ther Party is a suicidal Party bul I would
like to reject that here tonight, The
Black Panther Party realizes one thing,
that death comes to everyone, But it
varies in its significance, To die for the
reactionary and the racist is lighter
than a feather; but to die for the Rev-
olution and the people is heavier than a
mountain and deeper than Lake Michi-;
gan, Because of the changed phenomena
in the world today, it is very necessary
for the people of the world, all of the
victims, to not only wnite, but also de-
velop a common language. They also
have to develop a culture that's essent-
fally human, Because, whether we like it
or not, we are thrown together. We're
thrown together, and in order to avoid
the mutual slaughter of man by man, we
must develop acommon identity, auni-
versal identity, because of the universal
nature of technology. Today that tech-
nology is being held away from the peo-
ple. It’s held from us, Bul we will seize
it in order to free the people from not
only the natural forces, tut also free the
man from the labor, sothat man then
will be able to indulge in productive
creativity and create the kind.of social
system, create the kind of value system
that will allow us to live together in
peace,
We know that our enemy, in fact, is
only a small ruling circle. But we have
many people who fight the victim, This
person, who fights the victim much of
the time, is also a victim; and that
makes it even more confusing, Grad-
ually as the climax comes, the people
are seeing that it is not in our interest
to fight each other, because there’s one
common oppressor, and that oppressor
now has,divided, Not only divided the
world into nations, not only divided the
world, and therefore divided the human
spirit. So that men now see each other
as something less than a man, We call
each other species and pseudo-species
or we say that we’re human or we're
homosapiens, but the others are not,
While the small ruling circle stays on
the outside of all of this and acts as a
so-called peacemaker, bul really en-
joying the fight, because while we fight,
he robs us both blind, nour communily
in California, if you want to see the
biggest fight you've ever seen, let the
oppressor come down inthe communily
with a poverty program and offer adol-
lar-sixty-five an hour with ten positions
open, that community then will divide
into the Chicanos, into the Blacks, into
poor Whites and stab each other to death

fight for what they all deserve, What

son that keeps away the abundance, be-
cause there’s enough for everyone, But
in order tounderstand this, we must be-
come conscious,
Today | would like to call your atten-
tion to the trial that’s going on in Conn-
eclicul of Bobby Seale, the Chairman,
and Ericka, Their trial is another ag-
gressive violent act. Some people
wonder are Bobby Seale and Ericka
guilly, or are they not guilty? AndI say
that that’s not the question, even though
they are obviously not guilly. The ques-
tion really is - the question is, does the
State have the right, does the State ad-
ministration have the right to ask fora
man's life? Once the State asks for a
man's life, itnegates and invalidates its
power; it becomes illegitimate, It be-
comes illegitimate because a contract
that any man makes with his adminis-
tration -with the State Administrator,do
wrong, oy an injustice towards the citi-
zen, who is then to have a redress of
grievance that's set up by the State, so
that things will remain peaceful, But
how could you have a redress of grie-
vance, If the State takes your life, you
cannot come back then, The State de-
cided, because of your power, thatI was
not guilty so they released me and now,
the people ask foraredress of grie-
vance, But whatif the state had had their
way; what if you had not intervened?

There's been some misunderstanding
about the Party at this point, Because
the mass media is only an agency of con-
trol by the reactionary forces, They’ ve
spread the lie that the Party is deterior-
ating, because some people have been
suspended for various reasons. But this
is not true at all, Remember that we
base our success upon the programs
we institute in the community and when
these programs fail, the the Party will
fail, Until that time we would like to call
those who stand on the sidelines, just
gesticulating and criticizing, we would
like to call them a liar, because our
work will speak for itself, It's notonlya
great pleasure to be here, it will be even
a greater pleasure whenI see youat our
center at 4233 Indiana Street, where you
sign up for our community program and
involve yourself in the survival pro-
gram , Because il’s been too long that
we come, and we come to speaking en-
gagements and rallies to be entertained,
But now the day is so violent and the
people’s very existence is so under
threat, until if we do not involve our-
selves more than talking, we haveavery
short future, So I ask you'to show your

A community is basically a collect-
tion of institutions that are supposed to
serve the people. So we have Black
communities here in Chicago, we have
Chinese communities here in Chicago,
we have Chinese communities in San
Francisco, Puerto Rican communities
in New York, Black communities in New
York, and really, it’s like a dispersed
collection ofnations but the only thing is
that the aggressor administrated all of
these communities, just as he adminis-
trates the wealth and the economy and
the political institutions of all of the

The reality of today is not internation-
alism, but reactionary intercommunal-
ism, We would like to transform that
into Revolutionary Intercommunalism

On March 25th, at 11:30 P.M,
the Chicago gestapo surrounded
the home of Edward Wills and
without warning began firing their
weapons of war into the apart-
ment, in an effort to kill the oc-
cupants. One brother inside the
Apartment, Andre ‘‘Bobo" Tho-
mas was wounded by the pigs bul-
Jets. The reason given for this un-
warranted attack upon the com-
munity by the reactionaries was
that about a hour earlier, u
Coleago Housing Authority rent -
a-pig, panedSydney ** Troubles”
Willon, had been pinned down by
sniper fire and bad called for
reinforcements. More C,H.A,
guards arrived, along with the
regular Chicago gesupo, and
claimed to have exchanged gun-
fire with several Individuals on
the street, and then to have chased
these individuals into Mr, Edward
Wills’ hore, which wan then sur -
rounded and attuckec, Running
Gog Sydney Willon, or ‘Troubles
as the people of Altgelc Gardens
call him, bas a histery of bru-
talizing and murdering the peo-
ple of the community, and then
lylog about it, This time **Trou-
bies” could not le for there were
numerous witnesses who saw
everyting the pigs did.
At the time of the atrack, whic!
the pigs called a ‘shoot-out’,
there were three young babies In-
side, This, of course, made oo
difference to the pigs, for even
after they were told by Mr. Wills"
neighbors that amall children
were in the home, they still con-
tinued to fire. After the pigs got
into Mr. Wiis’ home, they brutal-
ly bear allthe occupents. Ove
;thirteen year old brother, named
Mark, had his hair set on fire by
the fascists. Everyone inside the
home required hospitilization af-
ter they were tortured by these
gestapo; but the only one to re-
celve any medical attention was
Andrew Thomas becaise the pigs
had shot him in the leg.
Witnesses from the community
have valid and concrete evidence
thar the raid on Mr. Wills" home
was pre-planned by the pigs. The
people of the community say thar
the occupants inside Mr, Wills’
home are very well known tn the
community, and that tie pigs are
lying when they say snipers had
run into the home, In fact, the
people tn the home had been
ing around the Altgeld Gardens
area talking to the people, trying
to start a ‘*'Pree Breakfast for
Chlidren Program". As another
matter of fact, most of the in-
dividuals in the home at the time
of the raid hed regularly been
coming to the Black Panther Par-
ty’s political education classes
(at 4233 Indiana every Saturday
afternoon). The pigs knew all
this. And, the raid was planned
designed to kill and jall
these revolutionary brothers and
sioters,
The people of the community
know thac Sydney ‘**Troubles’*
Willen was never pinned down
by any sniper fire, although
there are those In the comumunity
who have every right to take his
dog-like life, k ia a known fact
that Willen always carries an
turomatic assault rifle with him
and is known for threatening the
lives of people be does not like.
The Black Panther Party sa-
bures the valiant revoluionary
brothers and sisters who were in
the homme of Mr, Wills at the time
of the raid: Mr. Wills, his soas
and
Pau] and Mark, Patrick Ward,
Frank Wright, Linda Flerage,
Patricia Wills, Harold Lynch
and Charles Adams, They are now
being unjustly held In the County
jall at the mercy of the fascists,
falsely accused of attempeed
murder and other *crimes”’, The
Altgeld Gardens community
stands in support of these broth-
ers and sisters and demands thelr
immediate release.
We are all working for that
glorious day when there will bea
mass execution of all pigs, The
“Troubles” of the world should
know they haven't seen any trou-
bles yet.

FOR THE LIFE OF MALCOLM SHEPHARD, THE PIGS OWE THE PEOPLE A DEBT,
THAT CAN ONLY BE PAID WITH THEIR OWN LIVES
On Sunday morning, April 4, 1971,
at 12:30 am, Malcolm Shephard fell
victim to Chicago’ s spectal repres-
Stve forces, the Task Force, of the
Chicago Pig Department. As usual,
the gestapo has termed the death of
this brother ‘justifiable’, To them
the deaths of all Black men and wo-
men are justified, The contradic-
tions surrounding the death of Mal-
colm are plenfiful. The following is
what happened as reported to the Black
Panther Party by Malcolm's mother,
sister and friends in the Black com-
munily where the murder occurred,
Mrs, Shephard informed us that her
son, Malcolm, had come home Satur-
day evening around nine. He had asked
her for a dollar, which she gave him,
so that he could go to a party in the
communily. He left home again and
went to Scott's Pool Room on 66th and
Wentworth Sts. where he mingled with his

friends until about 12:25 am, At that
time, he left the pool yoom on his
way to the party, Five minutes later
Malcolm had been shot by the pigs,
allegedly for robbery. He was shot in
the small of his back and the bullet
did not exit, The pigs said thal Mal-
colm had pulled a gun on them and they
fired in self defense. Why would
Malcolm pull a gun on vicious dogs,
not fire, and then turn his back?
The gestapo also said that Malcolm
had robbed a 64 year old man named
Elmer Walker. Elmer said that he
had been robbed of some change a-
mounting to no more than cents,
A dollar was taken off Malcolm's body.

been sitting on 66th street between Yale
and Ross Sts. for over an hour, and
that when Malcolm walked by, on his
way lo the party, the pigs got out of

Minster calmly shot Malcolm in the
back, The witnesses then say that
five ‘‘warning"’ shots were fired after
the brother was shot in the back, This

cover stury eo the July Ii, 1970, Lesue of the Meck Pan-
ther. To refresh everyone's memory, te, his wife amd 3-
year old grendchikt were driving Dome on the night of
Jere 2rd, 1970, Pig Robert Watters confronted them aten
they reached thelr home (at 419 N, BiedSt,) and accused
Mr. Davis of running throweh a red fight. As he had not
gone through the light, he replies! te the pig to the effect
thar he bade’ and went inside the ouse with his family
Pig Walters raitioe! for istaunce, in his quest for
thrills, and two of Philadelphia» ‘finest fascists ap-
peared on the scene, Pigs Mulermo and Tuso.
‘Together, the tiree broke down the frong door to the
Davis home In true gestape fayhion, They charged up-
stairs and shot Mr, Devis in the arm, but they wene
tumbling back down the steps, as be tet loose on ther in
eelt—defense with his shotgun, Allduwee pigs were wound-
ed and sent to the hospital, Shortly, 2000 300 pigs hear~
fy armed converged upon the scene and launched three
bour, all owt attack on the house, The only way the Davis
family escaped certain death was that Mra. Davis and ber
grandson, Maurice, hid tiside a closet, and Mr. Davis |hid
in 4 bole in the third floor ceiling.
Eventually, the piga invaded the house, accompanied by
Rizzo (who ts now running for mayor of Philadelptia), and
tear-gatsed Mr. Davis out of his hiding place, They hand-
cuffed him and tiedhis legs together. Then Rizzo, himself |
personally bit his in the bead with a black) ack five or six
time. Afterwards, Mr. Davis was dragged from his
home, thrown into the back of a pig wagon, beaten again
aod taken to Philadelpiiia General Hospital.
For relating to his basic human rights to self-defense
and survival, he was inititally held under $50,000 ransom
which was later reduced to $10,000, Thirty-four days Lat-
er, Mrs Davis managed to scrape together the $1,000 cash
needed for the bond andget him released from the Deten-
tion Center,
From the time of his release to the present, Mr. Davis
has been speaking to various groups and gatherings about
his case, On February 1, 1971, he was scheduled to ap-
pear before the fascist courts andthe Slack Panther Par-
ty had put information out to the community in advance, to
come to hear the case. When a large crowd showed up at
Clty Hall to viewthe fascist spectacle, the pigs postponed
it to March 22nd,
Om March 22nd, the people appeared at City Hall by 9:00

Davis were read: assault and battery, ag-
gravated assault and battery, assault with incent to kill, re-

In effect, he was charged with the very ertmes that the
pigs committed against bim and his family, Mr. Davis,
who has no so-called previous criminal record, pleaded
“Not guilty" to every charge.

pletely sober, never gets drunk and never curses, and

Pig Dixon finished up the day, basing his lies en every~
one else's, notably committing the fact that he and Pig
Williams beat Davis In the wagon.
There were inconsistencies in the pigs’ testimony,
such as whether a light was burning on the second floor
when they invaded the Davis home. One ply had to read
the names of the pigs who were supposedto be wich him
off a olip of paper while on the stand, The only way that
they managed to keep some of their Hes consistent was
by one pig telling the others out in the hallway after he
fininhed reatifying about what he sabd.
Wednesday tnorning, 4 character witness, LynnSmith,
and Mrs, Davis testified before the Judge about the pigs
collaboration of their testimony, while out inthe hallway,

‘The guard appeared confused and both Smlth andthe D,A,
seized the opportunity to coach him in the “correct’’
aniwer by telling him ‘'what was expected of a juror’
and asking hin the question over and over, Finally, his

When the prosecution stated that he was sccepeable as a
juror, defense attorney, Tabbl, asked Smith for a*'show
cause’’, which the judge denied,
The next two persons questioned were both Black
women whom the prosecution challenged for no other ob -
vious reason then the desire to exclude as many Blacks
from the jury as possible, The lth juror was a White man
who had been an MP In the fascist military. The 12th
juror chosen was also White, 25 werethetwo alternates,
The final composition of the jury was seven Whites (in-
Chading one" law enforcement officer’’~-the bank guard--
one ex-Milltary Policeman, two old men over 60, etc.)
and five Blacks (of which only one was 4 man), Definite-
ly this wasn't a jury of peers for a 48 year old Black man,
Artiur Davis.
Tuesday moraing (March 25rd), the jury was sworn
in.A long parade of pigs got onthe witness stand and gave
their versions (@ies)as to what happened the night of June
23rd, The wildness of the tales they told would be cormi-
cal if Grother Davis® life wasn't hanging inthe balance,
Por example, Pig Walters testified thathe, Pign Palermo
and Collins were the ones who first eneered the Davis
home; when tt actually was himself, Palermo and Tuso
who broke down the door, Pig Collins dida'tcome on the
scene until later, He ulso led that they knocked on the
front door and it came open by itself because it was un-
locked. One look at the door in the Davis home tells «
much different story.
Pig Tuso Wed that he tiad been in the hospital for a
week, at first, to revover from shotgun wounds of the
face and neck; yet be was actually seen at a hearing lens

day, BrotherDavis, himself, testified. And Friday, Mrs.
Davis testified. The DA, actually asked her the ridicu-

‘Then, two other defense witnesses from the community,
who had seen the attack. One of these witnesses also tes~
tified that Mr. Davis was dragged from the house, not

when they produced a picture of Mr, Davis lying on the
floor, and had retouched tr to make it appear that some~
thing that could possibly be a stretcher was under him.
‘The defense was not allowed to enter the picture of Mr.
Davis being dragged on his knees as evidence to the
contrary. The railroad proceedings were adjourned until
March 20th when character witnesses for the defense are
expected to testify,
More than the beautiful person of Arthur Davis is on
trial in this case, Our very right to self-defense and sur-
vival is being triad by those very fascists who want to
effect our death as a People. Arthur Davis set a con-
crete revolutionary example for every Hlack person in

On March 21, 1971, at approxi-
mately Sa.m. another blick bro-
ther was murdered in cold blood
by pigs in our community, Leslie
Allen Black, 21 years ok! was
shot and killed early Sunday
morning on 23rd Ave and Spruce
streets, here inSeattic, Washing -
ton, Lealie was shot by
“officers”, Peter Dornay, 24
years old and Robert Elmore,
27 years old, both of whom are
just rookies on the police force;
Dornay has only 15 months ex-
perience and Elmore, han only

portunity to try to get him aff

The testimony consisted of two
conflicting versions of the tight -
one from the two young whites
who worked ut the store, and the
other from Temmy and his
friend. The two whites admit-
ted that they had been enemies

Everyone who came up to the Hall of
In-Justice in San Francisco on Tues-
day, April 6th, in support of the Soledad
Brothers at their pre-trial hearing ex-
pectedto see fascist tactics, but those of
Mafioso Judge Calcagno’s court were
outrageous, The purpose of the ‘“‘hear-
ing’’ was to hear motions from the de-
fense attorneys to have the Soledad
Brothers moved from San Quentin Pri-
son to San Francisco County Jatl. This
would make it easier for their attorneys
(whose offices are in the area) to see
them,
Normally, even in a fascist railroad,
some pretense of ‘‘justice ’’ is made,
The judge usually listens to motions
even when it is known that he is going
to deny them, However, fascisti, Mafio-
so Judge Walter F, Calcagno wasted
no time with this pretense, He walked
into the courtroom, said, ‘‘Motion de-
nied, Your trial date(meaning the Sole-
dad Brother’s trial date) is set for
August 9th, 1971 in(fellow fascist) Judge
Caperetti’s court, Courtis adjourned,”
And he was on his way out the door with
a deaf ear to the pleasof attorneys John
Thorne and Floyd Silvermcn for him
(Calcagno) to at least hear their argu-
ments,
At this point George Jackson, Fleeta
Drumgo and John Cluchette began to
gather up their belongings for return to
the holding tank, ComradeGeorge hada
folder of papers he had received that day
among his belongings.
(James Purcell) told George he could
not have the papers, and, attempted to
snatch them from him, When George ad-
vised the guard that those were his be-
longings, and he did not haveto release
them, the guard viciously grabbed his
arm, George naturally defended himself
from this racist pig's attack. Morepigs
converged on George, in addition to
Comrades Fleeta and John,
This entire incident (kangeroo court
session included ) happened in less than
fifteen minutes, Spectators were still in
the courtroom, bewildered and outraged

the immediate aid of the San Francisco
Tactical Squad,
They began to beat spectators and
commit arbitrary arrests, Among the
three persons arrested was John
Turner of the West Berkeley Branchof
The Black Panther Party, after they had
brutally stomped and beaten him,(The
West Berkeley Branch is that Branch
which has been leading the campaignon
Community Control of Police in
Berkeley.) They also beat and arrested
Jimmy Carr, a student atthe University
of California at Santa Cruz; and David
Lamm, a worker from Los Angeles.

being beaten and then arrested, were in-
sulted with the charges of assault ona
pig, distrubing the peace, and resisting
arrest, However they had left the
courtroom prior to the spectators’ rush
toward the railing and were attacked in
the hallway.
As part of this particular tactic of
genocide of Black people, the pigs also
hit George Jackson’s sister, Frances
(who is seven months pregnant), with a
billy club, When George's family later
left the courthouse to take Frances to
the hospital to check for abdominal
pains, they were stopped by two pig
cars, The pigs gave the weak excuse that
the driver of the Jackson family car was
making ‘‘illegal’’ turns,
This fascist terrorist attack of the
pigs shows how upset they are, that the
brothers in the maximum security com-
munity are becoming closer to the mini-
mum security, street community, and
the community to them, All the blatant
brutality and harassment only served to
further educate the people to the need
to ‘‘wage a struggle inside the jails and
prisons simultaneous with the struggle

On April 1, 1971, a bullet hole was
found in the window of the law offices
of Franck, Hill, Stender, Hendon,
Kelley & Larson, in Berkeley, Cali-
fornia, The hole also went through
a poster about community control of
the police in Berkeley.
Peter Franck is one of the lawyers
in the office and he was one of the
people who aided in the drafting of
the original petition for community
control. He has been actively cam-
paigning for the passage of said bill,
In fact, the entire office has been
in support of the action, We do not
know exactly when the bullet was fired,
but it was shor directly in line with
where one of the legal workers has
her desk,
We feel this is a direct attack on
us because we supported community
control, lt is reminiscent of the day
when Huey P, Newton was acquitted of
murder, and two drunk policemen shot
into the Black Panther office at pos-
ters of Huey, Our office has been
burglarized on two separate occasions
and the police did nothing’ abour that;
so we decided not to call them abour
this either, since they Obviously are
opposed to community control, and this
is directly related to our involvement

investigate the unjust, inhumane poli-
cies of California's slave camps.
During the process of investiga-
ting the racial conflicts you would
unveil a keen, sagacious plot rela-
ting the annual ‘‘cut the budget’ show
of California, The riots are the out-
growth of a prearranged con-
spiracy, produced and directed by the
prison officials, At the very mention
of the ‘‘cut the budget show’, an ir-
rational web of panic and insecurity

Martin is 4 13 year old Dlack brother who has been
chosen by the Revolution to study inthe Camilo Clenfue-
gos Military School , He was born in Camaguey on Nov.

What We Want
1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our
Black Community
We believe that black people will not be free until we are able to deter
mine our destiny
2. We want fall employ ment for our people
We believe that the federal government is responsible and obliyated te
give every man emplorment or a guarantecd income We believe that
the white American businessmen will not give full employment then the
means af production should be taken from the businessmen and placed in
the community so that the people of Ihe community can organize and em
ploy all af its people and pive o high standard of living
3 We want an end te the robbers by the CAPITALIST of our Black
Community
We believe that th ist governoent has robbed us and
demanding the overdue del of forty acres aud two mules Forty a
and two miles was pronitsed 100 ears ae as restitution for slave Labor
and mass murder of black people We will accept the payment in
whieh will be distributed to our many commiumtu The Germans are now
gitting the Jews in israel for the genocide of the Jewish people The ter
mans murdered six million Jews The Amervan racist has taken part in
the slaughter of over fifty million black people. therefore, we feel that th

We believe that if the white landlords will not give decent housing to
our black community, then the housing and the land should be made inte
cooperatives so that our community, with government aid, can build and
make decent housing for its people
5. We want education for our people that exposes the (ruc nature of this
decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true
history and our role in the present-day society
We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a know!l-
edge of self Ifa man does not have knowledge of himself and his position
in society and the world, then he has little chance to relate to anything
else
6. We want all black men to be exempt from military service.
We believe that Black people. should not be forced to fight in the mili-
tary service to defend a racist government that does not protect us. We
will not fight and kill other people of color in the world who, like black
people, are being victimized by the white racist government of America
We will protect ourselves from the force and violence of the racist police
and the racist military, by whatever means necessary
7. We want an immediate end to POLICE BRUTALITY and MURDER
of black people
What We Believe
We believe we can end police brutality in our black community by or-
ganizing black self-defense groups that are dedicated to defending our
black community from racist police oppressiun and brutality. The Second
Amendment to the Const)*t.un of the United States gives a night to bear
arms. We thetefore beneve that all black people should arm themselves
for seliaiefense
& We want freedom for all black men held in federal, state, county
and cily prisons and jails
We believe that all plack people should be released from the many
jails and prisons because thoy have not ceceived a fair and impartial trial
9. We want all black people when brought to trial to be tried in court by
a» jury of their peer group or people from their black communities, as
defined by the Constitution of the United States,
We believe that the courts should follow the United States Constitution
© that black people will receive fair trials. The 14th Amendment of the
US. Constitution gives a man): right to be tried by his peer group A peer
is a person from a similar economic, social. religious, geographical, en
vironmental, historical and racial background. To do this the court will be
forced to select a jury from the black*community from which the black
defendant came. We have been, and are being tried by all-white jurres
that have no understanding of the “average reasoning ran” of the black
community
10. We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace.
And as our major political objective, a United Nationssupervised plebis-
cite to be held throughout the black colony in which only black colonial
subjects will be allowed to participate, for the purpose of determining the
will of black people as to their national destiny. :
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one
people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with
another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and
equal station to which the laws of nature and nature's God entitle them, a
decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare
the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, '
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights;
thal among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to
secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their
just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of
Kovernment becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people
to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its
foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as
to them shall scem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Pru
dence. indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not
he changed for hght and transient causes, and, accordingly, all experience
hath shown, thal mankind are more dispased to suffer, while evils are
sulferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they
arc accustomed But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pur-
suing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under ab-
solute despatiom, itis their right, it is their duty. to throw off such govern-
ment, and to provide mew guards for their future security
